The Jonathan Lea Network Employment Tribunals – Price Guide
Our expert team are on hand to assist you with employment law disputes. Whether you are an employer or employee, or whether a tribunal hearing is required, we can provide proficient and realistic advice to suit your situation.
Prices for employment tribunals vary in accordance with the complexity of the case and depending on which stage the matter is resolved. Not every case requires every service that we offer, but, as a guideline, our prices range as follows:
- Simple and medium complexity cases: £5,000 + VAT (£6,000 inc VAT)
- High complexity case: £18,000 + VAT (£21,600 inc VAT)
Factors to Consider
Factors which may affect overall costs include (but are not limited to):
- the point at which the matter is resolved (e.g. if the matter is concluded before going to a tribunal hearing);
- whether the other party has representation;
- the complexity of the claims themselves;
- hearing postponements;
- the number of witnesses; and
- the amount of documentation.
These are costs owed to third parties and are therefore not included in our charges above (although we will handle the actual payment of them). Any anticipated additional costs will be outlined at the outset.
One such disbursement is that of counsel fees, which typically range between £1,000 to £5,000, depending on availability and expertise. These fees are not set by us, although we will aim to select a barrister suitable for the work required.
The time scale for employment tribunals varies, but is largely dependent upon the stage at which the matter is resolved. Generally, if a settlement can be reached before a tribunal hearing, the matter should conclude within 4 weeks. For claims which go to a tribunal hearing, a final hearing will normally take place between 4 and 9 months form its submission to the tribunal.
