Interview with Adrian Dayton on law firms and social media marketing
The following youtube video is a recording of a Google Hangout interview with Adrian Dayton, an internationally recognised speaker and consultant on social media and business development, particularly for the legal sector. He is the author of two books, LinkedIn & Blogs for Lawyers: Building High Value Relationships in a Digital Age (West 2012), and Social Media for Lawyers: Twitter Edition (ARK 2009) and his consulting business has been engaged for the last three years with Global 100, AmLaw 250, Canadian and Australian firms helping them to increase profitability through effective use of digital media.
The subjects we cover in the interview include how Adrian left his career as a practising lawyer behind and successfully pivoted in quite a short space of time to become a well known social media blogger in the legal community, his best examples of lawyers using social media today and his views on the future of the legal profession.
We also talk about how any lawyer can develop a name for themselves online now whereas beforehand people were judged by what law school or university they went to, how lawyers can be too pre-occupied by LinkedIn whereas blogging and developing the right relationships and distribution network on Twitter for your content is more important, the usefulness of Facebook for building the social connection (evidenced by Adrian’s choice of holiday destination in Spain this year, as recommended by me in response to one of his posts on Facebook), Adrian’s strategy for travelling the world and working at the same time (including how he generated opportunities for himself in Australia) and his views for the need of lawyers to now adopt a ‘hyper-specialism’ approach to practising law.
