AI Won’t Replace Lawyers — But It Will Transform the Profession.

The Jonathan Lea Network were invited to represent the legal sector in a forum to advise leading government figures in Whitehall and Westminster on the adoption of AI across different businesses in the UK economy.

Senior Dispute Resolution Solicitor, Kent Reynolds, explored how AI is already reshaping the way lawyers work.

He explained that whilst AI can:

  • Summarise complex chains of communication.
  • Improve tone and clarity in client correspondence.
  • Assist with legal research and analysis.

He also cautioned that challenges remain, from confidentiality and GDPR compliance to security risks, client perceptions, and accuracy (“hallucinations”). These must be carefully managed through secure systems, strong policies, and human oversight.

Looking ahead, Kent suggests that we’ll see a move away from general-purpose tools towards specialist AI designed for specific tasks, with developments like quantum computing set to accelerate progress.

His message was clear: AI won’t replace lawyers, but it will transform the profession, freeing us to focus on strategy, judgment and client care.

If you’d like guidance on navigating AI’s impact on employment and legal issues, reach out to Kent Reynolds and the team at The Jonathan Lea Network.
